A subharmonic mixer is a type of mixer, particularly in high-frequency applications, that utilizes a local oscillator (LO) signal at a submultiple (often half) of the desired mixing frequency. This approach offers several advantages, including reduced LO frequency requirements and improved rejection of unwanted harmonics especially the even harmonics. This technique desired when generating high frequency LO signal is expensive in terms of DC power and silicon area.
