In industrial environments and medical technology, high-precision positioning is necessary to ensure navigation in automation and robotics. Similar to commercial GPS, positioning can be implemented using so-called Doppler tags. These are distributed spatially and act as active targets that imprint a unique Doppler frequency on the received radar signal for identification purposes. With the help of this unique assignment, they can be used as known reference points and for positioning the radar.
The aim of this work is the experimental and analytical evaluation of three different Doppler tag architectures (60 GHz modular, 60 GHz custom IC, 79 GHz automotive system).
As part of this work, the following will be done:
- Application scenarios will be defined and specified.
- Develop suitable evaluation metrics,
- measurement campaigns will be carried out,
- performance parameters will be compared,
- requirements for the next generation will be derived.
The work combines system analysis, experimental validation, and concept development.
