Highly integrated silicon organic modulators for 6G-xHaul and cryo communication (INTERSOUL)

The upcoming generation of 6G communication require the development of optical transceivers which can be scaled energy and cost efficient. This is the reason why the project INTERSOUL aims at transforming a new approach of efficient electro-optical modulators from the state of research to the industrial application area. The silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) technology is the main idea behind these novel modulators. Required prework for SOH was already made, so the main part of this project is the design and realisation of the components required, the development of the necessary concept for the packaging and the verification of the overall system.

The research at IHE consists of the work on an electrical packaging with a high bandwidth and a small form factor. In order to realize this aim, the investigation of concepts based on printed RF-Interconnects is an essential part of the project. Besides the development of the RF-boards with high-speed interconnects, it is indispensable to verify the overall system.
